Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is reportedly planning to sell 10,000 telecom towers to meet the targets set by the Center as part of its National Monetization Pipeline (NMP). There is a possibility of getting a revenue of Rs 4 thousand crore in this. KPMG has been appointed as Consultant for Telecom Sales.
Third parties like Reliance Jio, Airtel involved
For your information, let us tell you that BSNL currently has 68 thousand telecom towers across the country. The towers will be sold with telecom co-location arrangement with third party companies like Reliance Jio, Airtel. Under the National Monetization Plan, 13,567 mobile towers owned by BSNL will be sold by FY 2025. Therefore, 1350 telecom towers owned by MTNL, which provide telecom services in Mumbai and Delhi, will be sold.
Let us tell you that BSNL is running in loss at this time, while the central government is going to continue the telephone service of BSNL and there is a possibility of merger with Bharat Broadband Network Company.
IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav recently said that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will start deploying 5G connectivity in India from 2023. The non-standalone (NSA) core network, which will be ready in August this year, will be followed by trials which are expected to end in December this year.
Reports had indicated that BSNL is launching 5G on 4G core, for which the company will take advantage of 5G Non-Standalone technology. NSA technology uses existing networking infrastructure to implement 5G connectivity, while Standalone (SA) uses the latest network infrastructure for this purpose.
