The Indian government is also troubled by the increasing cases of fake news through social media. The government is now taking several steps to stop the spread of fake news. Recently, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajiv Chandrashekhar gave very important information in this regard in Parliament.
Minister of State Rajiv Chandrashekhar said in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha that social media companies should give their users an opportunity to verify their accounts voluntarily. Along with this, these platforms also give verification marks to the users by verifying them on the basis of their parameters which can appear on their account. This will allow us to know whose account belongs to whom. They also say that this verification will be similar to the verification done through blue ticks on mediums like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Chandrashekhar clarified that the government is well aware of the dangers of fake news, misinformation and the harm it causes to users and increasing criminality etc. Therefore the government is working on the objectives of preventing and investigating crimes related to sovereignty.
