Today hackers are dominated all over the world and now even governments are not safe. Not only in India, hackers all over the world hack millions of accounts every day. Avoiding hackers is no longer in the hands of the government. In fact, the Central Government said in the Lok Sabha yesterday that during the last five years, 641 Twitter accounts, e-mails, websites associated with the Government of India were hacked. In this way, during the last 5 years, hackers have hacked more than six and a half hundred social media of the government.
Government’s 641 Twitter, Email and Website Hacked in Last 5 Years
Let us inform that the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Anurag Thakur said that in the last 5 years, a total of 641 accounts of the Government of India have been hacked, out of which a total of 175 accounts in 2017, 114 accounts in 2018, 61 in 2019, in 2020. 77, 186 in 2021 and 28 government social media accounts, emails and websites have been hacked so far this year (till February 2022). In this you can see that the maximum hacking has happened in the year 2021 and the least in 2019.
When asked about the measures taken by the government, the minister replied that whenever there is an agreement, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-in) informs the affected entities with remedial action.
Also, the minister told the Lok Sabha in a written reply, “CERT-in coordinates incident response measures with affected entities, service providers, Sectoral Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) as well as law enforcement agencies.”
On the other hand, when asked about the measures to avoid such hacking in future, according to Amar Ujala, the minister said that CERT-in was established to increase cyber security. It issues alerts and advisories on the latest cyber attacks and preventive measures on a regular basis to ensure the safe use of digital technology.
Thus now the government is also on the target of hackers and their accounts are being hacked continuously. However, with the help of CERT-in, it has come down significantly.
