Jio 5G: 5G service is going to start in India soon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also mentioned this in his August 15 speech and said that very soon 5G service is going to start. The 5G auction is over and we await the rollout of 5G network services. Jio has bought the maximum 5G spectrum in the auction.
5G auction
In the 5G auction organized by DoT, Jio bagged 24.7GHz spectrum for Rs 88,078 crore. This makes Jio the highest bidder, which has the largest spectrum pan-India (26.77 GHz). Reliance Jio has bought 5G bands in all popular frequency bands: 700MHz (n28), 800MHz (n5), 1800MHz (n3), 3300MHz (n78), and the premium mmWave 26GHz (n258) bands. Here, the 700 MHz band is the most demanded band.
Jio has not yet formally announced the launch date of its 5G service, but recently, Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani said that the company will celebrate the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ with a pan-India 5G rollout. The service did not start from 15th August but the launch date is very near.

Jio has bought 5G bands for all 22 circles, so Jio 5G is coming to all regions of India. However, according to a report, the company’s 5G services will initially start in 9 cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Jamnagar.
Jio has conducted 5G trials in 8 cities. A recent report by 91Mobiles reveals that Jio’s 5G trial in Mumbai offered up to 8x faster download speeds than 4G’s bandwidth. It appears that Jio may bring 420Mbps in 5G upload speeds and download speeds of up to 412 Mbps, which is a major upgrade over 4G speeds in India.
It is too early to say what will be Jio’s 5G plan and price in India. However, we are well aware of the competitive practices of Reliance Jio, so we expect Jio’s 5G plans to cost between Rs 400 to Rs 500 per month. At present, the ARPU of Jio is around Rs 175.
