New Delhi. The employees working in Google have got a big blow. Some time back, Google Maps was retrenched due to cost-cutting and once again the company has fired many employees in the name of cost-cutting. Meanwhile, a new email from Google has created a stir among the employees. According to a CNBC report, Google said in an email sent to the employees that this time only a few selected employees will get promotion at the senior level. Google said to its employees, ‘This time the process of promotion will depend on the manager like last time. Due to the slow pace of new hiring, we plan to promote only a small number of people to L6 and above this time.”
Let us tell you that at present, the L6 level of Google includes those employees who have experience of about 10 years. Google has recently introduced the new performance review system Google Reviews and Development (GRAD). The number of promotions is the result of this. This system gives low marks to most of Google’s employees and a few to high numbers in the performance rating.
Significantly, this is not the first time Google has laid off due to cost-cutting, but Google started its internal layoff in September 2022. Google officially announced the layoffs in January 2023, saying it would cut 12,000 jobs across different departments. Recently, the company has also shown the way out of the company to more than 450 employees from its India operations.
